The annual subscription remains at 12.50 but a decision was made to increase the entrance fee on the day to 6 when we have a professional demonstrator and 8 for non-members. This is effective from the February meeting. Other days, of which we only have two this year, remain at 2. The annual subscription will be reviewed in September and a decision made as to whether we need to increase it or not.

Peter Blake kept us entertained for the rest of the day making first a candlestick and then a dressing table tidy comprising a dished base fitted with a spindle on top of which is a lidded box. Photos in the Gallery. With the first item an interesting problem occurred. Would you believe it was to do with glue? Yep!! But this time it was nature's fault. The two pieces of wood were too dry and the glue soaked in and did not form a bond. Pete wet one piece and tried again and they stuck. (Cheers from the floor).

Several pieces of work were brought in by members and we had our first monthly competition piece judged by Peter Blake. There were some very good entries to look at but the winner for January was Howard Overton with a two-tier hanger for his Grandson to keep his collection of key rings on.

Our next meeting is on February 12th starting at l0am. and we have Mark Baker with us for the day. Mark is well known in the world of woodturning and we can be guaranteed a very interesting day so let's have a big turnout. He will be bringing a selection of his work to show us and also some copies of his new book "Woods for Turners" that will be for sale although at this stage I don't know what the price will be.
Talking about books, I will soon be starting on the Membership Directory but I am still waiting for the last few renewals to come in. As soon as I have these I can get cracking on it. Finally. Don't forget to bring a piece of work in to enter in to the monthly competition. Who will have his picture on the front cover with Mark Baker?

That's it from me for now. See you all on the 12th.

Graham
